Republic of Ireland produced a remarkable late comeback in 2025 to beat Hungary 3‑2 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier in Budapest. Troy Parrott scored a sensational hat-trick, equalising from the penalty spot before finding the net twice in the second half, including a dramatic 96th-minute winner. The victory secured Ireland a place in the World Cup qualifying play-offs and delivered one of the most memorable nights in Irish football history.
